World cup fever....

After awaiting for four long years, the biggest cricketing extravaganza is back again. India, Srilanka and Bangladesh are all set to host the 10th ICC Cricket World Cup. The opening ceremony at the Bangabandhu stadium, Bangladesh received a huge applause all across the world. The excitement can be felt in the air as Bangladesh for the first time is co-hosting such a mega event. The ceremony experienced the perfect blend of sub-continental traditions and modernity. Fireworks lit up the night sky and dancers created dazzling patterns. Lasers beams wrapped the stage with spectacular lighting. Further, Canadian Rock star Bryan Adams enthralled the audience by his astonishing performance. As expected, 'Summer of 69' featured in his list of songs. The music trio of Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy mesmerized the crowd with the theme song "De Ghuma Ke".

14 nations and around 200 players will battle against each other (over a period of 43 days) with a common aim to win the trophy. A total prize money of US$7.48 million is at stake for the teams standing 1st to 8th at the end of the event. Unfortunately, some of the top notch players would be missing the event because of injuries. Mike Hussey, Eoin Morgan, Sohail Tanveer, Nathan Hauritz are some of them. They are such a world class players, no team thinks of missing them. Their absence certainly would mean a depreciation in the quality of the games to be expected.

India is one of the favorites to win the title. This is not something I am saying just because India is my home team. Professionals, cricket experts, media are screaming the same thing. But whatever experts may say, I think South Africa and England share the equal chances of winning the title as India does. Sorry, I forgot to take the name of 4 times world champion 'Australia' along with the two. But, after seeing their horrible performances around the year and after the retirements of Gilly, Hayden and McGrath , I do not expect the same winning performance from their side. Still, they are Australians and they are famous for their hunger of winning.

But, all these are speculations and winner would be the team which will showcase an over all performance on the field. I just hope this tournament proves to be one of the greatest cricketing events of all time. Each and every one of us get to encounter a well mixture of batting, bowling and fielding. I am looking forward to the tournament!!!

Perfect blend of brilliance and benevolence...!!

Yesterday, I was watching Pranav Mistry TED talk. The talk blew my brain out. First thing is first, Who is this guy named Pranav Mistry??? According to me, he needs no introduction. But, for all those, who are not aware of, who he is!!! He is a research assistant and a PhD candidate at MIT. He is better known as inventor of Sixth Sense technology. Sixth Sense is a wearable gestural interface device developed with a mission to break all the boundaries separating digital and analogue worlds and to enhance our experience of real world. In simple terms, it is a breathtaking technology that enables interactions between real world and computer data.

In the initial stages of his presentation, he was talking about the apps and how they are capable of changing the way we deal real world. But, at the end of the presentation, he astounded each and every one, by announcing that he don't want to keep this technology to just himself, rather he would like to share this with a broader community. He would provide the source code as an open source code in the coming future. Sixth Sense prototypes cost approximately $350 to build (not including the computer){Wiki Sources}. This makes him a REAL GENIUS!!!! Hats off to you man!!

Indifferent people...!!!

I am not sure whether I am completely different from the others. I care a bit too much or the others do not care as much as I do. I kind of feel sad about people of my country who do not raise their voices against wrong doing of our society and our government. Everybody seems to be quite busy in their own materialistic life. Many a times, I try to understand them. Probably I cannot understand them since I am not like them – I am not voiceless. I speak, I speak a lot. I do not take everything for granted. I can't accept "it is written somewhere and we cannot do anything to change it” or “we are too small to bring a change” as an answer. I do not want to believe that I am nobody in this world and that so I cannot change anything.

Constitution of India provides everyone the right to freedom of speech, so, at least, people should say what they think or what they believe in. For Christ sake, we live in a democratic country, don’t we? So, why on earth people are afraid of expressing what they think????

I walk around and I see a lot of misfortunate people, people who do not know what they are going to eat tomorrow, or even worst, are they even going to have a slice of bread to eat or not. And I am angry because they don't do anything. But I am more angry with those people who are capable enough but don't give a damn about the well being of others. How can one remain indifferent by seeing all of this happening in their locality. I can't!!!

On the other hand, I happen to see the politicians of our country living an extremely luxurious life. They drive expensive cars. Sorry, Did I say “they drive”? No, I am wrong. They have their drivers who drive for them, because they are VIP (very idiotic persons) and they cannot offer themselves that service. They live in big palaces, where there are hundreds of people living on streets. They pay thousands of rupees on their one time meal, while a worker's daily wage is jsut Rs 60 in our country.

So much wrong happen every day and that also just around the corner of our homes but we never ever bothered to raise our finger. Our attitude “Sab Chalta Hai” (everything is ok) is letting India down and putting our own image at stake.

Come on Guys wake up and try to put a FULL STOP to all these abasement!!!!!

Dream Vs Reality

Hey all!!!

I come from a place where most of the residents are engineers. Over the past five years, I have observed that parents are becoming more and more cautious about their children's education. What's wrong with that? After all, who doesn't want his/her child to be a successful citizen. But, during summer of 2010, when I was there spending my vacations with my family, something disturbing happened. I was told that, children of 8th standard are under going coaching classes for IIT-JEE prep. Parents want their children to crack IIT-JEE in the first possible attempt. I felt, some kind of IIT mania is going over there. Does a 8th standard student really know what an IIT is?? Will he/she be able to appreciate the essence of engineering? I don't think so. Then why are they frittering away their cherished childhood for something, they are ignorant about? I spoke to some of the guardians, trying to figure out why they all wished to see their children becoming an IITian. They told me that, IIT has become an international brand today, which promises handsome pay-checks and to some extent job security too. No other thing can make you feel as much safe as the assurance of getting a nice job after becoming an IITian. Somewhere in their mind, they have started feeling "if neighborhood child can get into an IIT, why not mine"? But, feeling this conversation would go towards an argument, I just smiled and chose to leave it at that. Frankly speaking, I couldn't sleep at all the very night thinking to what extent the society has forced the young minds to follow the safe path instead of fulfilling their dreams.

Are we really born to fit merely in the jigsaw puzzle of society, tweak ourselves so that we fit in, so that we are not thrown out as someone who doesn't complete the ideal picture of the society? And what if, we start to paint a new picture, start building a new kind of world, bring in some changes that are never tried before? We all had some crazy ideas and dreams when we were kids. When you were asked "What do you want to become in the future", you never said "I wish to pursue a job that can fetch me a handsome salary" or "I want a job that can provide me so and so services". You wanted to do something exciting , that you were passionate about. You must have replied, you wanted to become an astronaut, dancer, musician, composer, businessman etc. I can bet none of you even thought if that would give you enough money for your expenses. You just wanted to pursue your dreams and turn them into reality.

Then why we lose all the passion, the interest, the strength to keep our dreams alive as we grow up.What has stopped us from following our heart rather than our brain? Why does money get the chance to decide what we want to become? Why do we stop thinking about what we love? The answer is we are influenced by the guaranteed paycheck to that fearful extent that we have started convincing ourselves and people around us that they should opt so and so profession without knowing whether he/she would be interested in pursuing it or not. This is all wrong.

What are we waiting for? A perfect day when all stars would line up in just the right direction and we would be guaranteed success? It never works that way. That moment of glory never arrives. All circumstances will almost never be in our favor. There will always be something that would be challenging.True success is not money driven, it's driven by love and passion. We've got to love what we are doing and we've got to be passionate about it. One might earn a lot of money but will never be self satisfied. You will always think "May be I should have given a fair chance to my dreams", "May be I should have taken some more risks in my life". It's never late to pursue your dreams. Just get out and try to do what you have always dreamt of doing.

"The indispensable first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: decide   what you want" Ben Stein
